From the Desk of Rev. Dr. Michael W. Davis

Today is the Day of days! It is the day in which the Christian community around the world renews itself in the most fundamental belief of our faith in Christ: belief in His Resurrection. At times we don't give much thought to this belief.

Meditación del Rev. Dr. Michael W. Davis

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month: This year we are focusing on the beginning stages of potential abuse where we are not alerted to abuse, necessarily, but rather to inappropriate behavior that often precedes abuse or the attempt of abuse. Grooming is the deliberate manipulation tactic predators use to gain trust. There are three types of grooming: Physical, Psychological, and Community.

Learning to recognize grooming signs is the best way to prevent abuse from happening. Over the next few weekends in April we will present some defining elements of grooming.

If you know of abuse or have a healthy suspicion of abuse, call DCF at 1-800- 96ABUSE (1-800-962-2873).

Archdiocese of Miami Lenten Rgulations 2026

Days of Fast and Abstinence:

Ash Wednesday (February 18, 2026) and Good Friday (April 3, 2026) are days of fasting and abstinence from meat products.

Abstinence from Meat:

All Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence from meat. Abstinence from meat is obligatory for Catholics 14 years of age and older.

Fasting:

Fasting is obligatory for Catholics from age 18 through age 59. On days of fasting, the norm is: one full meal, and two smaller meals that together do not equal a full meal. Eating between meals is to be avoided, though liquids are permitted.

Who is Excused?

Those who are excused from fasting and/or abstinence include persons who are ill (physically or mentally), including those suffering from chronic illness, as well as pregnant or nursing women, and others for whom these obligations would be harmful. When in doubt, the faithful should seek prudent council.

Pontifical Good Friday Collection

Friday, April 3, 2026

During Holy Week, the Gospel readings come to life in a special way as we gather to celebrate the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. The readings remind us of our special connection to the land where this great story unfolded.

Supporting the church in the Holy Land is an historic mission. Since the time of St. Paul, Christians worldwide have understood the responsibility to support the land where Jesus walked. (cf. 2 Cor. 8-9)

Christians in the Holy Land face special challenges - many of which we hear about in the daily news. The war left deep wounds that will take time to heal. Many Christians (for example, 90% in Bethelem) depend on the pilgrimage industry to live. They could not work during the pandemic, and the war again stopped pilgrims from coming. Even as some pilgrims start to come back to the Holy Land, it will take time before our Christians may make once again a living from it. Supporting the collection offers hope to the Holy Land Christians.

Although often through adversities, a Christian presence always remained in the Holy Land since the beginning of the Church. It is important that Christians continue to live, work and pray in the Holy Land, where the Church started. The Christians are now less than 2% of the population, from 23% a century ago, and with the war, many more are thinking about leaving. In Bethlehem, more than 90 Christian families have left since October 7. The Holy Shrines must not become like museums, with many visitors, but without a local community, where the Church was born.

Thank you for supporting the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, as encouraged by Pope Leo. Through the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, you join with Catholics around the world to stand in solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land, directly making a difference in the lives of those caught up in war, violence and instability in this region. You become an instrument of peace in a troubled land.
